Dimapur, Dec. 6 (EMN): A three-day sensitisation programme on women centric schemes was conducted in five villages at Meluri sub-division under Phek district from December 3 to 5th in connection with 16 days activism against gender based violence.
Blankets were also distributed to the needy women during the visit by the official team in the villages.
According to a press update, the programme was held at Weziho, New Thewati, Old Thewati, Letsam, Phokhungri and Avakhung village under Meluri sub division initiated by district administration Phek and DLCW- Mahila Shakti Kendra Phek.
DC Phek Sachin Jaiswal suggested that gender equality should reach out to every corner of the world. In regard to this, sensitisation programme on women centric schemes was organised in the remotest area of the district surrounding Shilloi lake (Letsam village) by the district administration team, it said.
SDO (C) and nodal officer BBBP Phek N Bhavani Sri, stated that despite several benefits available to women under various schemes, the citizens do not avail it due to the lack of information and poor road connection. Hence, the nodal officer said awareness generation is paramount for inclusive growth, it added.
The sensitisation programme was aimed to disseminate information related about central govt. schemes and programmes to the remotest part of the district. The programme also aimed to mobilise communities and society to bring about the necessary changes in attitudes, behaviours and beliefs about gender equality.
The centric schemes include DLCW Mahila Shakti Kendra, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, women helpline 181, Sakhi- One Stop Centre, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY), widow pension, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojona (PMMVY).
More than 400 blankets and other nutritional food items were distributed to the needy women and girls. The visitation team was led by DLCW MSK, Phek Women Welfare Officer Vileno Kapu, District coordinators Veposelu Naroh and Avikuotho Nguori.
