Sensitisation on clear meat production held in Longleng
DIMAPUR — The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Longleng, in collaboration with the Medical department and Longleng Town Council, conducted a sensitisation programme on ‘Clean meat production and meat-borne diseases’ at DPDB hall Longleng, on June 14.
Veterinary surgeon Dr. Aoyimsen Jamir dwelt on sanitation and hygienic management of slaughter areas to ensure clean meat production chain to the consumers, after acquiring the animals from the farmers and suppliers, an official bulletin stated.
The stakeholders in the meat business were sensitised on the hygienic management of their retail meat shops, which includes maintenance of transport vehicles and equipment used.
Jamir also cautioned the meat handlers on the occupational hazards of contracting infections, zoonotic as well as parasitic diseases, through meat if proper personal hygiene and precaution are not followed.
Dr. Limasungle Imchen, epidemiologist from the Medical department, highlighted on the meat-borne zoonotic and parasitic diseases. She explained how commercial as well as domestic meat handlers can get infected with various diseases if hygienic handling and proper cooking of meat is not done.
She also stressed on personal hygiene management and precautionary measures to be followed while handling meat.
Extra assistant commissioner, Longleng, Imkongnukla Ao, also exhorted and encouraged the participants.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Dr. Mophe B Phom, VAS (MVU), while vote of thanks was proposed by Issac Pongshi representing Longleng Town Council. The programme was attended by registered meat stall owners, poultry dealers and fish vendors.
