Seniors Master League: ESA Warriors triumph over Kohima Old Boys

DIMAPUR — The ESA Warriors claimed victory over Kohima Old Boys by a convincing 90-run margin in the last Seniors Master League (SML) match before the winter-break, on Saturday.

At the Nagaland Cricket Stadium, the Kohima Old Boys (KOB) won the toss and opted to field first. This gave the ESA Warriors the opportunity to set a challenging target of 176/5 with Aosashi leading the charge with an impressive 61 runs. Wati Imsong’s contributed 36 crucial runs, while Lanunukshi and Ruokuolhovo of KOB stood out as the leading wicket-takers, each claiming two wickets during the match.

Chasing the formidable target of 176 runs, KOB’s top-order batsmen faced a rocky start, losing wickets at regular interval. However, Lanunukshi’s 36 runs and Masestshilong’s 19 runs provided a resilient fight, elevating their team’s total score to 86 runs and resulted in losing the match by 90 runs.

ESA Warriors’ skipper, Alongba, made a significant impact by securing 4 crucial wickets for his team while teammate Aosashi was declared the man of the match for his brilliant performance, scoring 61 runs off 41 balls and also taking 1 wicket.

After an eventful series of matches, the SML 2023-24 season enters its winter-break, and will resume on Jan. 13, 2024, featuring seasoned players ready for more exciting contests.
