  • DIMAPUR — In a tragic road accident, N William Koso, a senior football coach from Nagaland, succumbed to his injuries after he was reportedly hit by a vehicle on NH-29 in Chümoukedima in the wee hours of Tuesday.

  • In a press release, the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, stated that upon receiving information about an accident at 5 Mile, Chümoukedima, a police duty party rushed to spot and found that a Mahindra Bolero driven by an unknown person had collided with a stationary Thar vehicle from behind, causing a rear-end collision. The impact forced the Thar vehicle to the right side of the road, triggering a chain reaction that resulted in the Thar vehicle knocking into a Scooty due to the initial collision caused by the Bolero.

  • On spot verification, it was learned that one person, later identified as William Koso (44 years) and suspected to be driver of Thar vehicle, was lying on the spot with serious injuries.

  • He was immediately rushed to nearby Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CHISR) but succumbed to his injuries.

  • After conducting post mortem and observing necessary formalities, the dead body was been handed over to the family member for the final rites. In this connection a case has been registered at Diphupar PS and investigation is on, the release stated.

  • Meanwhile, in view of the sudden demise of Koso, who also served as the technical convenor of the Nagaland Super League (NSL), the NSL governing body postponed Tuesday’s ‘Playoff Match 2’ as a mark of respect and remembrance.

  • The playoff match between Barak FC and Nagaland United has been rescheduled to March 26.

  • Koso, widely recognised as the first coach from the state to earn the prestigious AFC ‘A’ license, was instrumental in bringing the Nagaland Super League to the state.

  • He also played a key role in training and certifying coaches, with more than five NSL coaches having been part of his courses, a testament to his commitment to uplifting grassroots coaching standards in the region.
