[dropcap]S[/dropcap]enior citizens have blamed the authorities for failing to contain the March 5 upheaval in Dimapur when a mob lynched a rape accused after breaking into Dimapur’s so-called central jail. The Nagaland Senior Citizens Association issued a press release in Tuesday denouncing the case which attracted widespread condemnation from across the country. The Nagaland Senior Citizens’ Association took cognizance of the “serious nature of the incident that happened at Dimapur.” The group conducted an emergency meeting on March 9.
‘The Nagaland Senior Citizens’ Association condemns the failure of the authorities to take compressive security measures in the Central Jail enabling the mob to break into the jail and taking out the culprit, taking the law in their hands leading to loss of precious lives, injuries to many and damages to properties including ambulances,” the organization stated.
The organization also condemned the “rape committed by accused on 24th Feb’15 on one college student – be it IBI, any outsider or any Naga tribe, rapes cannot be tolerated in any civil society and the culprit deserves the severest punishment as per law to deter rapes by potential rapist in future.”
The organization stated that the inquiry commission probing the case should ‘expeditiously complete without fear or favor and the guilty penalized as per the law.’
