DIMAPUR — A seminar on ‘Drugs-free but empowered villages’ was conducted at Yongnyah village under Longleng district on July 23.

The seminar was organised by DEF Longleng Police in coordination with Phomla Hoichem at Yongnyah Village Baptist Church, a DIPR report stated.

Superintendent of Police, Longleng, Dr. Pritpal Kaur, the resource person of the seminar, spoke about the drug menace in the district and strategies to control the supply and demand chain.  

Dr. Kaur urged society and the police to work together in raising awareness among the younger generations about the harmful effects of drugs and intoxicants.

She also explained the legal proceedings and the roles of various stakeholders in combating the drug menace and further stressed the importance of village empowerment through hard work, honesty and education.

Earlier, the welcome address was given by Bonglom, VDB secretary of Yongnyah village. Tialemba, ES (PBCA), highlighted the importance of counselling drug addicts and facilitating their rehabilitation.

President of Phomla Hoichen, Mano, and Ainyu also spoke about ways to fight the drug menace, the role of women, and the significance of their empowerment.

Drug dependants presented a song expressing their commitment to overcoming drug abuse.

The seminar was attended by more than 500 villagers from Yongnyah, Yongshei, Tangha, and Yongam villages. The programme was chaired by Yimngoi, women pastor of Yongnyah Revival Church.
