The Chakhesang community of Seluophe village celebrated Sükrünye, the premier festival of the Chakhesang community at local ground of Seluophe village on January 15.Retired director of the department of Agriculture Lhiwepelo Mero was the ‘feast father.’
The festival was observed with festive fervor as hundreds of men and women and children attired in traditional gear thronged the venue. Events such as wrestling, spot jumping, and bamboo-pole climbing competitions were among other traditional activities. Addressing the gathering, the feast father Lhiwepelo Mero called upon the youth to stop being dependent on other and to become self reliable. But, the feast father also warned that doing something through unfair means will never be successful and that the person will never become a man.
Sükrünye festival is a time when father blesses the children. During the festival the father blesses the children to be successful in every field and if the child began his works with that blessing, he will be successful throughout the year, said Lhiwepelo.
