[dropcap]P[/dropcap]arty-less government or all-party government in Nagaland? Chief Minister T R Zeliang has reportedly pleaded with BJP national president Amit Shah to consider the ground reality of the state and to help form a party-less or all-party government in the state.
Nobody was surprised at the publication of this report given the backgrounds of many of the legislators.
Majority of the NPF legislators working to experience such an unprecedented political situation will not be a hostile ask. Congress and BJP may be the cheese and chalk items in politics but for many of the NPF legislators they find it hard to distinguish between the tastes of cheese and chalk today. Reasons? Most of the NPF legislators were one time hardcore Congressmen nurtured and groomed by party stalwart S C Jamir. For years they were drunk in Congress ideology. But after the revival of NPF in the year 2003 these legislators have been hobnobbing with the BJP (a period of 12 years). Given these backgrounds, for majority of the NPF leaders they owed allegiance to both cheese and chalk of the Indian politics. Or, they have no ideological hostility with the Congress and the BJP. So, the Kichdi or Khichri of lotus, palm, cock, clock…will not affect the digestive system of the Cock Party.
Sadly, in the context of the Naga situation (at the moment) such coalescing can be considered as a pain killer but it is a great detrimental factor to our cause.
This column had commented earlier that due to pernicious ideology of the bigger parties the urge to have regional parties cropped up. By this logic, regional parties cannot be too accommodative when comes to maintaining relationships with the national political parties. Hobnobbing with the bigger political parties with compromising approach often dilutes the sanctity of regional parties. NPF is considered by many not as a mere political party. It is one of the principal agents of the Naga movement. Solely driven by the survival politics the NPF may lose its charms.
