Security tightened ahead of Modi’s Imphal visit

The security measure has been tightened up in and around Imphal town in view of the BJP’s Prime Ministerial Candidate Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to the state on February 8. Imphal West District Police Commandoes Bazar Unit along with the personnel of the City Police conducted search operation at Governor’s Road at around 2 pm today. The operation was led by the Officer in Charge K Sudhir Singh of City Police station.
The team cordoned the Diamond Galli area to Indra Colour Lab junction and conducted the search operation.
Seven persons who failed to produce their identification proof were detained during the operation and handed to the city police for further verification,sources added.
Meanwhile railway construction site in Manipur has been reportedly attacked, reports said. Firing two lathod bombs,suspected Naga militants attacked the worksite of the ongoing railway construction site near Tupul under Noney Police Station.
According to a source, the underground cadres fired two lathod bombs at the said worksite in the intervening night of February 5 and 6 from a nearby peak located at the surrounding area of the construction site.
The personnel of 6 Indian Reserve Battalion posted at the work site retaliated and ensued an exchange of fire fight for about 15 minutes. However, there is no report of any human casualty during the firing, it added.
