Security tightened across Manipur ahead of Modi visit

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]ecurity has been tightened and put on a maximum alert across Manipur ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s maiden visit to the state after he took over office.
Modi will be visiting the state on November 30 to attend the closing function of annual Sangai Festival here at Hapta Kangjeibung. Security has been tightened across the state in view of the forthcoming visit of Modi, official sources said Wednesday.
In an hour-long visit to Manipur, the Prime Minister will arrive at Imphal Tulihal International Airport by a helicopter around 3 pm. On Wednesday, police conducted combing operations at different places in Imphal including Takhel Leikai here along the airport road to foil any attempt by militants to cause disturbances to the Prime Minister’s visit.
BJP Manipur Pradesh, meanwhile, told a section of media that the party has geared up to receive Modi at the party office at 4:30 pm on November 30.A grand welcome ceremony has been arranged for Modi at the state BJP office, party general secretary Moirangthem Ashwinikumar said. He said 200 state BJP leaders will attend the reception ceremony.
The BJP leader said issues on health, education and many others confronting Manipur will be raised during the Prime Minister’s visit.
