Dimapur, May 20 (EMN): Mon battalion of the Assam Rifles distributed essential items to John Society Old Age and Orphanage Home in Mon town on May 19.

A defence release stated that distribution of essential items was initiated by taking into consideration the difficulties faced by the public during this Covid-19 pandemic. It added that the generous act of humanity was appreciated by the director and staff of the home.

In another programme, Changlang battalion of the Assam Rifles organised a Covid-19 awareness drive for the residents of Changlang town in Arunachal Pradesh on May 18.

A defence release stated that the event was focused on creating awareness about precautions to be taken in wake of recent surge in Covid-19 cases. It added that masks and sanitizers were distributed among the local population during of the programme.

The beneficiaries included people from the weaker section of the society, senior citizens, women and children.

In a related programme, Mokokchung battalion of the Assam Rifles organised an awareness drive on Covid-19 for residents of Halwating and Amguri villages of Sivasagar district and Seleng Hatkhola village of Jorhat district in Assam on May 17.

It stated that the programme was focused on creating awareness about precautions to be taken in wake of recent surge in Covid-19 cases. It added that use of face masks, social distancing and use of hand sanitizers among others were emphasised during the awareness drives.

It further stated that the villagers were motivated to get themselves vaccinated at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Jairampur battalion of the Assam Rifles conducted an Ex-Servicemen (ESM) meet at Vijaynagar in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh on May 18.

The ESM meet was conducted to discuss the issues of ESM settled in Vijaynagar and also process their request for early resolution. On the occasion, ESM were informed about Covid-19 second wave and precaution to be adhered to prevent the spread of the disease.

ESM were further directed to report their problems for necessary assistance.
