KOHIMA, JUNE 11: Responding to the ever increasing threat of global warming and its impact, and to initiate towards a green environment, a plantation day was held today at Sechü Zubza, the sub-divisional headquarter of the Western Angami region. A plantation drive was initiated by the Sechü Zubza Youth Organisation (SZYO) in collaboration with the steering committee of the SZYO 50th anniversary celebrations. The plantation programme is a year-plan of the SZYO, coinciding with the golden jubilee celebration of the organization which falls this year. All the citizens of Sechü Zubza, including the institutes and government establishments located in Sechü Zubza, participated in the plantation programme, wherein, over 1500 tree saplings were planted in and round the village locality. SZYO president Megoneituo Kielienyü said the plantation was initiated so as to let every youth member have a share of their own contribution in protecting the ever degrading environment. Kielienyü was happy that the youth members responded positively by planting a tree each. “It is time the younger generation should respond positively to all the challenges that comes our way,” he said being hopeful that the planted trees will grow to serve its purpose. The SZYO jubilee steering committee convenor, Petevi Meyase, who steered the plantation drive, stressed the need for more plantation programmes in the near future. He urged every Naga to keep planting more trees in the attempt to make our environment more green and clean.
