The run up to polling day is also in many ways the best time for the voters fearful of being forgotten once the results are declared to cash in. It’s a well known fact that “education’ and “employment”have remained the biggest challenges of every successive government.Addressing a rally in Aurangabad Rahul said that if Congress comes to power, it will create 10 crore job opportunities for the youth in the next five years and this will be done through the creation of industrial corridor between the major cities and the dedicated track for the movement of goods. He also said that if the party comes to power, the 70 crore people currently categorized as the APL group would be upgraded to the middle class. Rahul also claimed that in its regime, the UPA brought 15 crore Indians above the poverty line and the UPA achievement on this front was five times more than the NDA. Rahul also promised irrigation facility for the Aurangabad farmers. Notice that in one paragraph of his speech the young Gandhi has made promises to (i)create 10 crore job opportunities, (ii)create industrial corridor,(iii) have a dedicated track for the movement of goods, (iv) 70 crore Indians categorized as the APL group will be upgraded to the middle class.This is the election speech of a leader of the UPA in power for the last decade. What was happening in these sectors?
