SDAO Tening conducts training for farmers

DIMAPUR — Office of the sub-divisional agriculture officer (SDAO) in Tening town under Peren district conducted a training on organic farming practices for sustainable agriculture, disease and insect-pest management of king chilli and use of organic spray under MOVCDNER phase-4 in Nsong and Tening villages on April 2 and 3 respectively.

During the training, the SDAO of Tening, Samsangheile Nchang, apprised the farmers on the four main principles of organic farming namely health, ecology, fairness and sustainability.

A DIPR report stated that the trainings on organic farming practices and various insect-pests management were delivered by technical experts.

Neivah Hangsing, agriculture officer, spoke on organic farming practices such as inter-cropping, crop rotation, double cropping, mixed cropping, vermi composting, integrated farming system and their advantages. She stressed that farmers need to adopt them to ensure continuous productivity and maintain sustainability and balance of the ecosystem.

Kewichamsi Kaurinta, ATM, spoke on identification of different insect pests and transmitters of plant diseases especially in king chilli. Besides, Kaurinta also briefed the participants on different methods of utilising organically sourced materials to be used as insecticides.

It stated that demonstration on chilli extract and formulation of organic insecticides was led by Sahabo, AFA.

Altogether, 75 farmers in Nsong village and 103 farmers in Tening village attended the training programme.

It further stated that millets, jobs tears and king chilli seeds and roban were given away to the participants.
