Scientists arrive in Dimapur to train BSL-2 team

Dimapur, June 17 (EMN):
Scientists from Jorhat in Assam are said to have arrived in Dimapur to train personnel of the bio-safety level-2 (BSL-2) laboratory in Dimapur, a top official at the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) in Dimapur has confirmed.

Ten technologists, including four from Jorhat, are working at the laboratory, Dr. Sedevi Angami, managing director of CIHSR, told Eastern Mirror on Wednesday.

‘The learning process has begun long back,’ the doctor said, adding that the technologists have been working together with the CIHSR for over a year on various similar programmes.

On Wednesday, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) also informed that Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur Anoop Khinchi and Dimapur Police Commissioner Rothihu Tetseo had visited the CISHR to check the overall progress of the BSL-2 installation “which is urgently required for undertaking more test of Covid-19 samples at Dimapur”.

Dr. Angami informed the visiting officials that 90% of the work on BSL-2 was completed and the application process with the ICMR is in process, informed the update. “All details would be sent to ICMR through a prescribed form and further, videos of the work done would be uploaded and once ICMR gives the green signal, the lab would be functional,” the doctor was quoted as saying.
