Kohima, June 13 (EMN): To motivate college students to open up to a much broader spectrum of knowledge through connecting with other universities in the country, the Directorate of Higher Education and Reliance Jio will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on June 14.
Prior to the singing of MoU, Director of Higher Education, Kuholi Chishi, speaking to Eastern Mirror, said it’s a project of Reliance Jio extending JIO Net wi-fi internet services to the colleges, free of cost for academic purposes.
As per the MoU, Chishi said Reliance Jio will provide free internet access to students in the college campus for a period of one year, which is extendable and payable on rental charges in the later period.
Clarifying on the ‘free internet access,’ she said free access doesn’t mean access to all sites whereby all unauthorised and objectionable sites will be blocked. She said students will be provided with only the required sites that are good enough for learning to enhance their knowledge and to be able to interact, communicate and connect with the leading universities in the country and learn from them.
Although it is a project where Reliance Jio is extending services to all the educational institutions, she clarified that this particular MoU, which is to be signed tomorrow, is meant mainly for the government colleges.
Talking about the MoU, Chishi said there is nothing complicated about MoU but a simple official paper to ensure that the partnership ends well and that there is no distinct or problem in the future. It was also informed that the MoU will be drafted by the Law & Justice Department.
When enquired how this will benefit the students, Chishi said sensing the urgent need to broaden the spectrum of knowledge, the department concern with the students wants to ensure that they can connect with the rest of the country with the latest happenings about the teaching and learning area and that they don’t fall behind others and are at par with the rest of the universities.
‘We want to give them the platform so that they don’t feel discriminated or feel inferior than the others’ and added that the students will be able to see and learn from what others are doing outside.
She was optimistic that this facility will be an attraction for the students to come to college and learn as much they can. ‘We want to create that kind of attraction to our students’ and added that the students will be happy and will be greatly benefitted.
