Dimapur, March 24 (EMN): District level coordination committee (DLCC) on national tobacco control programme (NTCP), Peren, agreed to initiate measures declaring educational institutions tobacco free with the help of district education officer (DEO).
The decision to this effect was taken during the fourth quarterly meeting of DLLC held on March 22 in the ADC’s conference hall, Peren, chaired by the deputy commissioner, Sarita Yadav.
The members also agreed to implement activities such as imparting awareness and sensitisation on the ill effects of tobacco to villages in continuation of creating sensitivity towards ones health and the importance of abiding by the laws under COTPA Act 2003 – “Health should be the greatest concern for both the implementers of law and the community.”
Besides, the members agreed for enforcement drive to be carried out in Jalukie and Ahthibung towns with the help of the enforcement squads. The members further agreed to incorporate literary and media programme as integral part of the upcoming activities.
Superintendant of police, chief medical officer, RD project director, district education officer, district nodal officer NTCP, representatives from All Saints Higher Secondary School, Peren, and staff of NTCP attended the meeting.
Dr. Sabino, NTCP district nodal officer, delivered the keynote address and the meeting concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Hoineichin Singson, SW (NTCP).
