Dimapur, May 3 (EMN): Chairperson of Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), Asano Sekhose, urged the schools to follow prescribed syllabus and adhere to academic activities and insisted on six working hours with working Saturdays.
Asano Sekhose stated this while addressing the members of All Nagaland Private School’s Association (ANPSA) during a special session of the general body meeting on May 2 held at NBCC platinum hall, Kohima, as the special guest. While sharing some of the concerns in learning, she stated that teachers need to be motivated to teach and added that qualified good teachers should be employed.
She appreciated the private schools for coming together and forming a body like ANPSA where they could collectively work for the progress of the schools. To achieve progress, she stated that a school also has to take the community with it.
She stated that education is not only academic but also to do with the overall development of a child’s personality. She said the “3 Life Skills Education 2016” edition was conceived in order to reiterate that education does not only mean equipping a child with intellectual knowledge but more importantly bringing out the best in every child – physically, mentally and emotionally. She added that the objective of the book was to impart to young minds the basic values of life, help them to acquire the right attitude and be productive in life.
In the first session, the outgoing president Bithungo Kikon explained the reason for calling the meeting as the term of the present office bearers was over. He expressed apprehension of possible constitutional crises if the handing over to the new team do not take place in time.
He thanked the government especially the NBSE for the support and encouragement shown by including ANPSA’s president in the most important educational decision making bodies of the state. He also appreciated the Education department for making a landmark decision and empowering ANPSA to select their own teachers for the Teacher’s Award on Teachers’ Day. He also stated that educationists would now be included in the list of awardees for Governor’s award on Republic Day every year.
He stated that ANPSA could now forward the names of deserving teachers and school heads for Governor’s awards.
He also stated that ANPSA should always opt for selection instead of election for appointment of its office bearers and added that the post of ANPSA central president should always be reserved for NBSE schools as 99% of schools in ANPSA are under NBSE.
ANPSA new president Nini Sekhose thanked the members for reposing their trust and confidence on her. Nini Sekhose stated that she had taken over the responsibility depending totally on the wisdom and strength of God and the support of the outgoing team and the member schools.
She introduced the new team of office bearers to the members. The new team is headed by Nini Sekhose as president, Fr. Jacob Charalel, secretary CEDOK, as vice president, PJ Nathan as general secretary, Abalie Medoze as joint secretary, Leneno Y Disong as treasurer, Ashuli Apil (Joseph) as information and publicity secretary along with Phelupfelie, Rev. Dr. M Savi, and Bithungo Kikon as advisors.
Rev. Father Jaison dedicated the new team with a word of prayer.
The outgoing team presented a photocopier to NBSE for use at the Board’s office.
ANPSA advisor, Pheluopfelie, who moderated the second session, stated that ANPSA came into being 36 years ago not because of need but because of family feeling among the private schools to come together to support and encourage each other.
