School Edu. offers updates on Mid-day meal

The annual administrative report for 2019-2020 of the department of School Education shows that the coverage of students in the Mid-day meal scheme from 2019 to 2020 is 1, 57,510 students in total.

School Education department informed that Mid-day meal scheme was being implemented in the state by the department since 1995 with active participation from the village education committees (VEC), and interested self help groups among others.

In the annual report, the education department maintained that ever since its inception, there have been ‘tangible results indicating a marked improvement especially in school enrolment’ and states that the programme has been extended to all education guarantee schemes and Alternative and Innovation Education centres established as part of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan scheme in the state.

Further, the school department gave updates about some of the activities that were undertaken as part of the MDM scheme during 2019-2020. A training programme for implementation of the Mid-day meal scheme was conducted on July 6 2019 at the directorate of School Education for officials and nongovernmental organisations along with the officer in charge of the Mid-day meal programme.

The department informed that a ‘Mid day meal mela-and-exhibition of school organic garden products’ was organised at the local ground of Peren town on August 30 2019. The programme was initiated as a Mid-day meal project, the updates stated. 

Also, the school department stated that 358 schools have kitchen gardens, adding that work for developing kitchen gardens is in progress for 878 schools to support the Mid-day meal scheme.
