DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 18

EXTORTION, rape, illegal taxation, not even the dead are spared as graves are dug up by thieves for valuables buried with the deceased, it’s a dirty crime world that has entrenched itself in Dimapur.
ATM booths now join this shameful crime list. The UCO Bank ATM booth located at Chumukedima 2nd Gate had an intruder on late Tuesday night. But, before the thief could walk away with the cash, he was intercepted by a night patrolling team of Dimapur police while on the act. The police team claimed to have reached the robbery site at the right time, if not the thief could have escaped with whatever is in the ATM booth.
The police arrested the accused along with three other friends who were also present at the site. However, as per police report, the three other friends were found to be innocent because in their individual statements, they all stated that they dissuaded him from stealing.
The accused has been identified as one Kevitso Angami, son of Zhatuo Angami of Chumukedima village.
The incident took place at around 2.30 am (Early Wednesday morning) when the accused, a school drop-out, along with three other friends were reportedly drinking together.
All of them were in inebriated state during the time of arrest.
At the ATM site, the accused was reportedly stopped by his friends, but he did not pay heed to hi friend’s advices. He is said to have used a ‘dao’ to break into the ATM.
But before he could do away with the money, the police caught him red handedly at the spot.
The accused is in police custody while further investigations are on.
