Members of the Nagaland University Students’ Union (NUSU) at Kohima and NUSU of Lumami informed on Sunday that the students held a ‘candlelight protest’ on Nov. 18, a press release from the organisers informed on Sunday. The students held a procession “bringing into light the injustice of corruption” in the dept. of Higher Education, the press release stated. Inthono, an assistant prefect for men’s hostel was quoted in the press release as having said that the “respective dept.” should not “snatch away our rights” and that “we need transparency.” Lamenting that the majority of students depend on their scholarship to pay for fees, another student hoped that “the candle that we lit today will spark the heart and mind, becoming a burning flame for a brighter tomorrow.” The press release declared that, ‘The NUSU (M) stands with the demands of the NUSU (L) and strongly agrees that Nagaland University will continue to unite and fight for what is rightfully ours until justice is meted out.’ The students have demanded that the department in concern should release the remaining funds and ‘give and answer during the given time or further course of actions will be taken.’
