Mokokchung, Nov. 3 (EMN): Amid rumours of contesting in the upcoming Assembly polls in the state, Padma Bhushan SC Jamir clarified that he has no intention of rejoining politics, and would not allow his “retired, normal and free life” be disturbed.
Jamir stated this while speaking to the media during a press conference in Impur on November 2.
“I am now a retired person who is enjoying a very real free life and I will never allow my normal free life to be disturbed by other avocation. I have no intention whatsoever to be in politics one way or the other,” he said.
Meanwhile, Jamir observed that Nagaland is passionately waiting for the final solution and for the past 25 years, different Naga political groups have had serious negotiations.
‘Perhaps during these 25 years, they might have discussed in detail various aspects of the issue and after much deliberation and discussion among themselves realised to put it into writing, therefore, we have two agreements,’ he said.
The Framework agreement (FA), Jamir opined, if read carefully, recognises the contemporary political reality and on that basis, they have agreed to sign the agreement which is within the parameters of the Constitution of India.
“Perhaps both NSCN (IM) and GoI have fully understood the implication and significance of the political agreement,” he said.
He also stated that if some of the competencies, which are in talks now, are to be incorporated in the Constitution, then it would be through the Indian Parliament.
He further opined that the flag and Constitution were attributes of a sovereign independent country. ‘Whereas, in the agreement, nothing is mentioned about sovereignty, and therefore the question of flag and constitution do not appear to be relevant in this context,’ he stated.
Moreover, he said after the signing of FA, Agreed Position was also inked between WC-NNPG and GoI.
He said the Naga public or leaders of both “underground and overground” should now recognise the reality of the agreement already announced and published.
“It is my sincere appeal to the GoI that Naga people are tired of waiting when everything is finished,” he said, adding “The mighty India should have the guts now to decide things in the interest of the Naga people as well as the Government of India,” he said.
‘Let the people also enjoy the peace which other people are enjoying in the rest of the country and the world; after all Naga people are also human beings who are urging the Government of India to allow them to live in peace.
‘This special prayer I think should be fulfilled by the Prime Minister, who had already promised to settle the affairs,’ he said.
