SBI marks statehood with marathon

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of Nagaland’s statehood, the regional branch of the State Bank of India in Dimapur Friday organized a marathon for students under the banner ‘Run for Peace -2013’ with the participation of over 1500 students from different schools in Dimapur.In the boy’s category, Longshen Khiam, Bishnu Sharma, and Alentangba were declared winners respectively while in the girl’s category Sh. Kawirangliu, Mongsen and Pideno were declared winners respectively.
Addressing the culmination programme held in the premises of the Regional Branch Office, the chief guest and Deputy Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly Levi Rengma, has called upon the younger generation to imbibe discipline for healthy life. He emphasized that physical health is a prerequisite for economy health of the State.
Invocating participation of the youth towards building the society, Rengma exhorted them to ‘harness discipline’ which according to him is ‘the key to development and prosperity.’ He said that the state needs ‘healthy persons to bring about healthy economic life in the society.’
On the occasion, he has lauded the numerous humanitarian services rendered by SBI for the uplift of Naga society. He said SBI can be rightly called ‘Friends of Nagaland’ for the manifold services rendered to the Nagas even in far flung areas.
Earlier, chairing the programme, Lead bank Chief Manager David Kire has emphasized on the need for peace in the Naga society while saying that without peace, there cannot be development and future for the younger generation.
On the occasion, DGM of SBI Zonal Office, Jorhat, A Choudhury, and the General Manager SBI LHO, Guwahati, Farooque Shahab have also delivered short speeches, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Binod Srivastava, AGM SBI, Regional Office.
The Run for Peace was flagged off by general manager of Guwahati SBI Farooque Shahab from the state stadium.
