WITH the main objective to familiarize church leaders and village council members about the importance of team work and to work together for all round development and common interest of the community, a seminar for church leaders and village council members was successfully organized by Shaki Baptist Church on February 15 at Shaki village in Wokha district.
Speaking on the occasion as resource person, M Wonthungo Tsopoe, Deputy Director of School Education, pointed out that church leaders and the village council members are the main channel to build the village as well as to bring the villagers closer. He has cautioned against resorting to blame game amongst the leaders but to be farsighted and address the social problems together.
Stating that village is the root of a nation, he said it is like a kingdom having everything in it. In this regard, he encouraged the church leaders and village council members to think locally and act globally.
To bring about socio-economic change in the lives of the rural poor, he said the government is extending several welfare measures to alleviate poverty and encouraged the gathering to play effective role to bring about progress and development in the society.
Maintaining the lack of creating awareness of the welfare schemes as the major hurdles in translating the real packages of development, he called upon the village leaders to organize seminars by inviting resource persons to give talks on various schemes once a year.
He also cited an example of Chakhesang community which has imposed ban on import of pork meat from outside the district. Through this, the district has become self sufficient in meat production, he said.
Earlier, Rev. S Thungrio Khuvung, Assistant Pastor of Wokha Town Baptist Church, dwelt on the important role of church leaders and village council.
