Kohima, Oct. 28 (EMN): As a prelude to its silver jubilee celebration scheduled on December 9, the Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) has organised a seminar at Viswema and Kezo Town Council Hall on October 28 on the topics “Conserving natural resources” and “Relevance and values of traditions.”
The resource persons were Member Secretary of Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), Rusovil John; Joint Director (Rtd) of Youth Resources and Sports, Vimezo; AIG (S) PHQ Kevithuto Sophie; and Director of Treasuries & Accounts, Daso Paphino.
Speaking on the topic “Conserving natural resources” at Viswema, Rusovil John said Japfüphiki area is endowed with scenic landscape, pure air, clean water etc. He, therefore, said in-depth study and research on economically important forest land will further help in boosting conservation strategies.
He has, however, attributed the main hindrance in protection and conservation of the natural resources to carelessness.
He said it is important to conserve natural resources to maintain ecological balance and also to mitigate the effects of climate change, besides preventing the extinction of various species of animals, birds and medicinal plants. He said preservation and conservation will also help promote ecotourism thereby enhancing the economy.
Rusovil also urged the participants to look at the wider perspective and not only to avail immediate personal benefit.
SAYO silver jubilee organising committee convenor Vitsorel Lcho delivered the keynote address while the programme was chaired by SAYO vice president Zakeleto Tsükrü. Associate Pastor of Viswema Baptist Church pronounced the invocation and Joint Secretary Vidukho Kintso tendered the vote of thanks.
