SASRD trains villages on stingless beekeeping

Dimapur, Dec. 15 (EMN): School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD), Nagaland University, Medziphema, under the aegis of the All India Co-ordinated Research Project on Honey bees and Pollinators (AICRP – HB&P, ICAR), conducted training on stingless beekeeping at Punglwa and Medziphema village on December 11 and 14 respectively.

An update from SASRD stated that the two training events were focussed on “Scientific stingless beekeeping for farmers of Nagaland under NEH Region.” It stated that the resource persons have highlighted the importance of stingless bee, its vast scope and the benefits of rearing stingless bees scientifically.

The training events dwelt on the initial development of scientific box and its immense potential towards the uplift of the farmers’ economy by selling different by-products through scientific beekeeping. The resource persons further encouraged the farmers to take up scientific beekeeping as a hobby and prosper economically.

The trainees were also given scientific stingless bee boxes, bee veil and other tools. In both the training events, the respective village council chairmen have acknowledged the efforts of AICRP (HB&P, ICAR), SASRD, NU, and have requested a follow-up practical training in the future.

Altogether, 50 trainees participated in the two training events, the report added.
