DIMAPUR — Considering the interest of farmers in kitchen gardening and keeping in mind the objective of promoting onion and vegetable cultivation among tribal farmers, NEH Component-onion and garlic, in collaboration with NEH Component of vegetable crops, SASRD, Nagaland University, distributed quality seeds and other inputs to the beneficiaries in Molvom village on April 11.
An update from SASRD stated that besides quality vegetable seeds, other agriculture inputs required by the farmers during cultivation such as agroshade nets, garden spade, long rake 12 teeth, and organic biofertilisers were distributed to beneficiaries.
It stated that the demonstration and distribution programme was attended by Dr. Moakala Changkiri, scientist, AICRP (VC) and project in-charge of NEH Component-onion and garlic and vegetable crops, SASRD, NU, and the chairman of the village.
The beneficiaries were highlighted and demonstrated on the production technology and uses of organic inputs in vegetable cultivation. It stated that the programme was conducted specifically with an aim to promote kitchen gardening, which automatically would meet the requirement of the local people as well as generate income.
