Dimapur, March 26 (EMN): The 4th inter-class outdoor games championship of Nagaland University, SASRD campus, Medziphema, under the aegis of the Student’s Union of SASRD was held from March 18 to 23 on the theme “Into oneness, onto victory.”
The first day of the tournament began with the opening ceremony where Col. David S Nehemiah, Commandant of 41 Assam Rifles, graced the occasion as the chief guest. His notable advice to the youth was to set up a separate time to go out and play games when the present world is filled with the culture of virtual entertainment.
The games played were football, basketball and volleyball where seven batches competed for claiming the champion title.
Over the span of six days, the various batches put up fierce competition against each other. At the end of the tournament, the M. Sc 1st Year (Osiris) emerged as the overall champion, while the B. Sc 2nd Year (Infinitos) and the B. Sc 4th Year (Audacia) bagged the first and second runners up respectively. Individual award for the title “MVP of the tournament” was awarded to Bikram Ghimere (male category) and Ms Wonchibeni N Odyuo (female category).
The closing ceremony was addressed by Captain Hemjit Moirang of 41 Assam Rifles as the guest of honour wherein he emphasised on the importance of sports and ended his speech by quoting “work hard, play hard and enjoy harder.”
