Kohima, Jan. 3 (EMN): The 39th Sports Meet and 2nd edition of Naga Wrestling Championship 2023 of the Sekrüzu Area Sports Association (SASA) got underway at Sekrüzu headquarters under Phek district.
Sovenyi Nyekha, former president of CSU and CPO, attended the inaugural function as the chief guest and encouraged the players to strive for excellence at the higher level. He unfurled the association’s flag and inaugurated the rostrum and declared the meet open, which would culminate on January 9.
Bilhünyi Nyekha, president of Sekrüzu Area Public Forum, and chairman of Phühgi Village Council, Vedeyi Swüro, also addressed the gathering while Besühveyi Veswü and Khatsoi Sapu said the dedicatory prayer and invocation.
The inaugural function was chaired by Khokuto Sapu, while Müdotüzo Tetseo delivered the presidential address and SASA games and sports secretary, Kuvoto Shijo, administered oath to the participating teams.
Eight villages including one town under SASA including Dzülha, Thürütsüswu, Khütsa, Phühgi, Rüzazho, New Rüzazho, Suthozu Old, Suthozu New, and Sekrüzu town are competing in this year’s meet.
The tournament is being hosted by Phühgi Youth Welfare Union. The meet would include track and field events, football, volleyball, basketball and Naga wrestling.
