Saringyim residents sensitised on wildlife conservation
MOKOKCHUNG — Commemorating ‘National Wildlife Week,’ Mokokchung Forest Division, in collaboration with the Dimapur Wildlife Division, organised a sensitisation programme in Saringyim village on October 5 on the theme “Partnership in wildlife conservation.”
The event brought together stakeholders, dignitaries and the youth to address the pressing issue of human-wildlife interface.
Speaking on the occasion, the conservator of forest, N Senthil Kumar, who was also the special guest of the event, stressed on the need for collaboration to protect unique ecosystems. He highlighted the significance of working together to create a synergy to safeguard the natural world.
Assistant conservator of forest (ACF), Alemwapang Imchen, commended the joint councils of Nokpu and Saring villages for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the natural heritage. He urged the youth in attendance to embrace their responsibility to preserve their precious environment.
Speaking on the occasion, chairman of Nokpu village council, Lanusosang Ao, highlighted the unanimous decision taken by the joint councils of Nokpu and Saring to ban the hunting of wildlife within their jurisdiction.
The wildlife warden of Dimapur, Tokaho Kinimi, and EAC of Longchem, Orenthung Kikon, also spoke on the occasion.
In recognition of their commitment to environmental awareness, awards and certificates were presented to students who participated in the nature art competition organised at GMS Nokpu and GHS Saring on October 4. The first prizes were won by Imkongsunep from GMS Nokpu and Imlitongzuk from GHS Saring.
