Dimapur, June 11 (EMN): An organisation called the Sumi Area Affected Landowners Welfare Committee under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme for North East (SARDP-NE) has asked contractors engaged in phase-II construction under the project to stop their works.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the committee said that it has been working relentlessly for the past seven years with the authorities for the timely clearance of compensation for the 2nd phase without publishing any press statement.
“The affected villages under Sumi area/jurisdiction from Chakhabama-Zunheboto road under phase-A of SARDP-NE includes Kilomi/M-6 and Khughutomi villages (under Pughoboto subdivision), Xuivi, Kilo Old, Satakha town, Zhekiye, Aghuyito town, Shoixe, Yemishe, Sukhalu, Sheyipu, Natha Zhimo and Zunheboto town,” it stated.
However, it claimed, Xuivi village, Satakha town, Sheyipu, Natha Zhimo and Zunheboto town were not included in compensation list for phase II.
According to the committee, the authorities have now started compensating landowners under phase V, even as “90% of the affected landowners” under phase II were yet to receive compensation.
“Hence, without payment of compensation and forcing the villages to allow the construction on our soil will not be in any way acceptable. The welfare committee has no other options left but to initiate action and therefore, directed to all the construction firm/company(s) to halt/cease the ongoing work under the affected villages jurisdiction effective from the date of publication till the matter is resolved by the concern department (sic).
“However, the welfare committee will not disrupt the ongoing work under those villages and towns that are not included in the 2nd phase as they were already compensated on the 3rd phase,” read the statement.
