Dimapur, June (EMN): Saramai community celebrated the beginning of paddy transplantation, known as ‘Paoshete,’ a sacred agricultural ceremonial-cum-festival of Poumai Naga on June 4.
It is an agricultural carnival as host of guests, revellers and well wishers come to witness and celebrate the enchanting traditional practices and festivities.
The day marks the beginning of the mass transplantation of paddy saplings which entails and ensures the provision for the year ahead.
Speaking as the chief guest, advisor for Rural Development, government of Nagaland, Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire, said that tradition is something to be preserved that had been followed since time immemorial till date making one to know what it was before.
With the advancement of technology in the modern time, Kire said people are forgetting the traditions and cultures of our forefathers.
The chief guest also declared the traditional Naga wrestling competition opened, where youths representing different neighbouring villages participated.
The festival has multifaceted significance and calls for a variety of reasons to be exhilarated. Besides the epicurean delight, it showcases native talents and skills in the form of traditional Naga Wrestling competition on the eve of Paoshete.
Romance and courting comes alive during this joyous fest as beautiful damsels and lads from different villages grace the occasion.
