Sao Chang College initiates pollinator garden on World Earth Day

DIMAPUR — The Environmental Science Department of Sao Chang College in Tuensang celebrated World Earth Day on Wednesday.
To mark the occasion, it stated that the department has initiated activity with floriculture students to start a pollinator garden project to support biodiversity and a healthy environment on campus. As part of the activity, students planted Zinnias and Marigolds, which are known to produce a lot of nectar and attract bees, butterflies and other important pollinators, stated an update from the college.
During the programme, students learned useful gardening skills such as improving soil with organic materials and planting seedlings at the right distance for better growth. It added that the hands-on activity helped connect classroom learning with real environmental action and showed the importance of protecting pollinators, which are essential for food production.
It stated that the initiative not only made the campus more beautiful but also helped in protecting the local ecosystem of Tuensang.
It further stated that the department of Environmental Science would continue to encourage such practical activities to help students become responsible and active contributors to environmental protection.
