The Botany Department of Sao Chang College in Tuensang observed World Nature Conservation Day with a plantation drive and webinar.

DIMAPUR — The Department of Botany, Sao Chang College, Tuensang, commemorated World Nature Conservation Day on July 28 and 29 on the theme "Medicinal plant conservation and pharmacognosy", with financial support from the college's Internal Quality Assurance Cell.
According to an update, the programme aimed to create awareness among Skill Enhancement Course students on the importance, benefits, and conservation of medicinal plants while fostering environmental responsibility.
The event began with a medicinal plant plantation drive on July 28, during which Skill Enhancement Course students planted 21 medicinal plant species across the college campus. Students participated by planting locally available medicinal plant saplings and collecting information on their local names, scientific names, and medicinal uses.
A total of 64 students and two assistant professors participated in the plantation drive.

On July 29, a webinar was conducted with Dr. Ashish Kumar Tripathi, Domain Expert and Editor of the Journal of Drug Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, CCRAS, Ministry of AYUSH, as the resource person.
The webinar highlighted herbal medicine rooted in Ayurveda, Panchakarma, preparation and application of herbal medicines, major Ayurvedic herbs, scientific research and evidence, benefits and conservation of herbal medicine, risks and drug interactions, quality control and standardisation, regulatory frameworks, global market opportunities, future prospects of herbal medicine, and the identification of medicinal plants through microscopic and fluorescence studies.
A total of 40 students and two faculty members attended the webinar.
As a follow-up initiative, students will continue to monitor and care for the medicinal plant saplings planted on campus to promote long-term conservation and sustainability practices.
