Dimapur, Aug. 7 (EMN): Sao Chang College, Tuensang, has introduced traditional dresses on every Wednesday during the college hours starting from August 7.

An update from the college stated that students and teaching faculty would wear their traditional dresses on every Wednesday during the class hours. It was initiated to encourage young people to promote and preserve the rich and unique traditional attires of the Nagas.

“With so much of westernisation and modernisation taking place in the society, many young people are not aware about the unique culture and tradition of one’s community. Therefore, in order to make people aware of the importance of colourful and meaningful cultural items of every community, and also to preserve one’s identity through such cultural consciousness, the college has undertaken this new initiative making students and teachers to wear respective traditional dresses in the college,” the update stated.

On other working days, the students would wear college uniform. The college anticipated that the new initiative would go a long way in creating cultural awareness for the students.
