Dimapur, Oct. 31 (EMN): Sangzi FC booked its berth in the final of the Loyem Memorial Trophy with a 7-0 drubbing of DEF Tuensang in the second semi-final match played at the Loyem Memorial ground on Wed. Oct. 31.

A first half hat-trick from Jonny and a second half brace from Kheto saw the defending champions make their way into the final of the tournament in dominant style.

Challengers DEF Tuensang’s miseries worsened in the 26th minute when Liyanthung received the marching order after being shown a second yellow card and they were left to defend with 10-men for much of the match.

Jonny had earlier opened the scoring in the 13th minute before doubling his tally two minutes later. He completed his hat-trick in the 26th minute. Samuel (40’) and Awangbo (43’) scored a piece as the first half ended 5-0. Kheto then completed the rout with a brace in the 67th and 80th minutes.

Sangzi FC will defend their title against Nyenshen FC in the final after a day’s break on Nov. 2 at 1 pm.

Meanwhile, the organisers of the tournament have organised 3 exhibition matches to be played on Thur. Nov. 1

Besides promoting the sport, the exhibition matches are being organised to help raise funds for two projects which have been undertaken by the Confederation of Chang Students Union (CCSU) namely “Mission Zero% Free” and “Mission Wesen.”

Mission Wesen aims to improve the quality of education in the rural schools. Conducting annual assessments, strengthening the parent-teacher association, training parents for daily child assessment, felicitation of the best 3 schools and 3 top students are some of the objectives in this mission. Altogether, 12 villages will be covered in the first phase.

CCSU in collaboration with the District Education Office also launched the ‘Mission Zero% Free’ on Sep. 15. CCSU offers Residential Coaching to all the High School students under the purview of CCSU. The Mission aims to help students of class 10 in rural areas to clear their exams by supervising and providing the necessary materials and teachers to help them. Eight Government High Schools will be benefitted through this initiative.
