DIMAPUR — The Sangtam Students’ Union Dimapur (SSUD) has expressed deep concern over the rising incidents of bullying and physical assaults involving students, which are being widely circulated on social media and termed such unruly conduct among students and youth as a clear indication of an uncertain future.

An update from the union has warned that any individual from the community found indulging in or participating in such offences, including bullying and harassment, whether mental or physical, would face strict disciplinary action as per its rules and regulations. It added that such behaviour would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

The union further asserted that it would not remain indifferent to cases of bullying or harassment directed at individuals from the community. It, therefore, encouraged its community members, particularly students who might be facing such challenges, to seek support by reaching out to school authorities, students’ union, parents or elders.

The union also appealed to parents to actively guide their children and spread awareness against bullying and harassment so that values of respect, discipline and empathy are instilled from an early age.

The union further urged all educational institutions to establish accessible anti-ragging and anti-bullying cells. It also called upon to conduct mass awareness programmes highlighting the harmful effects and serious consequences of bullying so as to foster a safe and supportive environment for all students.
