Sangtam community protests assassination attempt in Tuensang

Sangtam community taking out silent procession against the alleged assassination attempt on the life of Aliba Sangtam in Tuensang town on November 16.

Dimapur, Nov. 16 (EMN): Expressing resentment against the alleged ‘assassination attempt’ on the life of K Aliba Sangtam at his residence in NST Colony, Tuensang town, on November 7 by unknown miscreants, Sangtam Union Tuensang Town (SUTT) has undertaken a silent protest on November 16.
A brief programme was held prior to the procession in which the presidents of USLP and SUTT spoke. Thousands of Sangtam people extended their support towards SUTT by joining in the silent procession. People held placards some of which read ‘Stop terrorism,’ ‘Save civilians,’ ‘Stop assassination,’ ‘No bombing zone,’ ‘Arrest the culprits’ etc.
SUTT also submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner, Tuensang, wherein it has demanded to arrest the culprits immediately and to ban crackers within Tuensang town jurisdiction with immediate effect.
Quoting reliable sources, SUTT president S Tsikimong and the general secretary Talisunep Sangtam stated that unknown miscreants lobbed grenade into the residence of Aliba Sangtam at about 7:40 pm during Diwali celebration on November 7.
Terming the incident an “assassination attempt,” SUTT stated that the motive behind the blast by unknown miscreants was yet to be confirmed till the time of submission of memorandum. Also describing the blast as shocking, SUTT has strongly condemned such act of terrorism stating it was against the law and unacceptable in the Naga society.
The union further called upon every right thinking citizens to condemn such kind of criminal act to maintain peaceful environment.
