SAMETI organises a two-day training on improved jute cultivation practices for agriculture officials in Medziphema.

DIMAPUR — The State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised a two-day training programme for officers and field functionaries from the Department of Agriculture on the topic “Improved jute cultivation practices” in Medziphema on April 9 and 10.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Janet Chishi, Deputy Project Director of SAMETI.
According to an update, in his inaugural speech, Bodevi Shuya, Director of SAMETI and Principal of IETC, spoke about the scope and economic potential of the jute crop in the state. He urged the participants to assist and guide the farmers to take up jute cultivation in the larger interest of the farming community.
The resource persons for the training programme were Bodevi Shuya, Akam Zeliang and Tiajungla Longchar, deputy project directors of SAMETI; Dr. Vizokhonyu Yhome, lecturer at IETC; and Diezelhounuuo Chucha, Agriculture Officer at IETC.

Topics covered were an introduction to jute, pests and diseases of jute, environmental sustainability, tillage operation, types of jute and fibre products. Hands-on demonstrations on the use of a seed drill and cycle weeder were also undertaken.
The valedictory programme was chaired by Yezaho Swu, Deputy Project Director of SAMETI. Sanuzo Nienu, Director of Agriculture and SNO (ATMA), in his speech, encouraged all the participants to transfer the knowledge attained during the training programme to the farming community.
The training programme concluded with the awarding of certificates to the trainees. Altogether, 32 officers and field functionaries from the Department of Agriculture attended the training programme.
The valedictory programme was followed by the inauguration of infrastructures for the strengthening of the Integrated Extension Training Centre (IETC), Medziphema, under RKVY 2025-2026 by Sanuzo Nienu in the presence of the SAMETI director and officials from the Department of Agriculture, SAMETI and AET trainees.
