Sameti launches skill training programme on vermicomposting

Dimapur, Sep. 13 (EMN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (Sameti) on Monday organised an inaugural programme for a five-day skill training of rural youth (STRY) on vermicomposting.

An update informed that the training programme will be conducted from September 13 to the 18th at Medziphema.

It is being held in association with National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad which aims at imparting skill-based training to rural youth in the age group of 18-40 years on Agri and allied based vocational areas to promote employment, an update stated.

Tiajungla Longchar, Deputy Project Director, Sameti welcomed the participants and gave a brief introduction about the programme. Meanwhile, Dr. Watimongla Jamir, director of Sameti and Principal IETC spoke about the importance of manure in farming and how this programme would enable the trainees to start producing manure by converting their kitchen and surrounding wastes into vermicompost.

It said that the programme would help in not only generating employment and income but would also be beneficial for the environment. Further, the director encouraged the participants to follow up the training programme with tangible results.
