Dimapur, June 23 (EMN): A training program in planning and procedures of drawing and mapping, was conducted on June 21, at the State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (Sameti), at Medziphema in Dimapur.
The training event was organised by the Extension Education Institute-North East Region, Assam Agricultural University at Jorhat in collaboration with the Sameti, updates stated.
The Sameti issued a press release informing about the training programme.
The participants were trained in what the press release called "participatory methods” and techniques in agricultural extension.
The resource persons for the training program were Dr. AK Bhattacharya, professor at the Assam Agriculture University and M Dutta, a research associate also at Assam Agriculture University.
According to the updates, the resource persons for the event covered topics ranging from “rural appraisal,” "planning and procedure of drawing participatory mapping, purposes and procedures of conducting seasonality/seasonal calendar and matrix ranking" to other useful agricultural procedures.
Further, said techniques were tested at Molvom village with the help of the village’s council and the 'farming household,' the press release stated.
Speaking at the occasion was course director Dr. AK Bhattacharya. He was stated to have spoken about the importance and effectiveness of team effort in organisation. Bhattacharya appreciated the trainees for successfully completing the program with "much enthusiasm and participation," the press release stated.
During the valedictory program to the event, the director of Sameti Dr. I Amenla emphasised on the importance of collecting correct data about the districts according to “agro ecological situations."
Amenla said extension is the best way to communicating with farmers. The official encouraged the trainees to "add a personal touch to their work," which she claimed will help "build trust with the farming community," the press release stated.
