SAMETI conducts training on management of spices

DIMAPUR — State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema, conducted a two-day training on ‘Packages and practices of spices and plantation crops’ on November 29 and 30.

An update from SAMETI stated that Samsing Taro, executive assistant, and Vezo, executive assistant of Spices Board of India, emphasised on the importance of market linkage and management of large cardamom and ginger production using proper processing method such as grading, drying etc. They also highlighted about the various subsidy schemes to support and increase the income of progressive farmers.

During the training, participants also visited the first tea dactory in Nagaland, Atoqa Tea Company Pvt. Limited, located in Nikhekhu village under Niuland district. During the visit, Obed Sumi, assistant manager and welfare officer of Atoqa Tea Company, gave a brief presentation of the factory including the processing of fresh tea leaves into final product.

He also highlighted the importance and management of tea plantation and stated that every drop of water can increase productivity and income of the farmers through precision water management.

During visit to oil palm plantation in Niuland district, a progressive farmer namely Vitozhe Jeito Sumi, who has planted nearly 1500 sapling of oil palm, shared his experience on using proper technical method and maintenance to ensure the growth and bear healthy fruits.

It stated that its deputy project director, Yezaho Swu, chaired the valedictory programme, while certificates were given away to the participants by its director, Dr. Watimongla Jamir.
