Saint John School celebrates watermelon festival
DIMAPUR — Saint John School, Diphupar ‘B’, Chümoukedima celebrated its first-ever ‘Watermelon Festival’ at the school premises on May 31. The event, inaugurated by the school headmaster Johny Abraham, marked the beginning of the celebration. The headmaster expressed hope that the festival would become annual programme in the school, an update from the school stated.
The programme was led by Bhaviya of Class 10 and the festivities commenced with a welcome address by Emironi of Class 5, followed by Luniezo of Class 5 highlighting the history of watermelon. Azezee of Class 5 enumerated on the myriad benefits of the fruit.
Students wore colorful dresses in red, green and black to represent the colours of the watermelon.
The festival was both informative and engaging. It featured various activities and competitions like melon art display, melon fancy dress, melon carving and melon eating.
Exciting games like the melon toss, melon obstacle race and melon relay race added a dash of fun, while poster making and board decoration contests allowed participants to express their creativity and enthusiasm, the update stated.
Amidst the festivities, students, parents and teachers enjoyed a delightful watermelon feast, which fostered a sense of community and appreciation for wholesome and nutritious foods.
By celebrating the watermelon festival, the school not only created a joyful and memorable experience but also reinforced the importance of making healthy dietary choices and promote the consumption of fruits as a healthy alternative to harmful habits like tobacco use, the update added.
