Dimapur, Nov. 14 (EMN): The 10th annual sports meet of Sainik School, Punglwa commenced from Nov. 11 with Inter House marathon race competition. Gp Capt Sanjay Gaekwad, Principal was the chief guest for the opening ceremony. The 5000 meters mini marathon competition is conducted in order to test the cadet’s physical endurance and agility and also to promote a true spirit of sportsmanship. Cadets from the six Houses competed for the top slot and showed extreme level of enthusiasm and unprecedented level of energy.
This year’s championship saw a nail biting competition where records were broken. In the resilient competition, the first position was bagged by Cadet Tapan Kodak, of Melak House with a timing of 17:05 minutes completed the 5 km run thereby setting a new school record. The previous best was 17:47 minutes. The second and third place was bagged by Cadet Tamar Mara, of Patkai House with a timing of 17:21 minutes and Cadet Keneitsetuo of Japfu House with a timing of 17:27 minutes respectively.
The marathon race also saw active participations from the staff wherein CHM Ajit Patil, APTC took the first position with timing of 18:30 minutes followed by Shri Keshav Chhetry TGT (Soc Sc) and Shri Igumsing completing the race in 22:14 minutes and 23:04 minutes respectively. In the ladies category, Sangeeta Chaudhary TGT (Hindi) bagged the first position with a timing of 25:31 minutes followed by Charani with 26:17 minutes and Yalina A Ashaf with 29:26 minutes.
