KOHIMA — ‘Safer Nagaland,’ a new mobile application developed by the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) was officially launched on Friday by NSDMA Advisor Z Nyusietho Nyuthe in Kohima.
The app allows citizens to access real-time weather updates, location-based forecasts, and early warning alerts directly from their phones anytime and anywhere. It is available for download on both the iOS App Store and Google Play Store.
Speaking at the launch, Nyuthe said that the introduction of the app is not merely about adopting a new digital platform but reflects the state’s growing capacity and commitment to using technology for the safety and well-being of its citizens.
“The Safer Nagaland app connects people directly to vital information that can help save lives, protect property, and support better planning at the community level,” he said.

He added that the app is an extension of the NSDMA Weather Portal launched earlier and that together they form an integrated system for weather monitoring, forecasting, and awareness across Nagaland.
“By bringing these services to mobile platforms, NSDMA ensures that critical information reaches the last mile—from urban centres to the most remote villages,” he said.
Nyuthe further assured that NSDMA will continue to strengthen its network of automated weather stations, expand forecasting capabilities, and enhance public awareness through partnerships and education.
“The success of these initiatives depends not just on technology but on how effectively citizens use this information to act responsibly and prepare proactively,” he added.

NSDMA Joint Chief Executive Officer Johnny Ruangmei said that several other services will be integrated into the app in the coming days under a unified digital platform. The main objective, he said, is to reach out to as many people in the state as possible.
“As everyone has a phone these days, this app will help the public access weather updates at their fingertips,” he added.
Additional Secretary Sentiwapang Aier also encouraged citizens to download and make use of the application.
