Dimapur, May 26 (EMN): Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (Rusa) National Mission Director R Subramanyam, who is also the secretary of Ministry of Human Resource Development, has assured that a special provision will be made exclusively for the north-eastern states.
Emphasizing on the need of performance-based funding under RUSA phase 2, he also acknowledged that the educational institutions in the region needs special support.
The director gave this assurance to the delegates from Nagaland during the Rusa phase-2 project approval board meeting held on May 25 at the India International Centre (IIC) in New Delhi. An update received on Saturday from a local journalist informed.
Minister for Higher Education & Technical Education, Temjen Imna Along, accompanied by State Project Director (Rusa) Menuokholie Kire, Project Officer (Rusa) Ruokuosatuo Yhome, and Benjamin Yepthomi attended the meeting.
Minister Along highlighted that the north-eastern states depends entirely on central funding to develop its educational institutions since they have no internal revenue.
Stating that all the institutions in the region are ‘still very young,’ he impressed upon the need to provide special package to the struggling institutions. He stated that due to lack of proper educational facilities many of the students from the region are migrating to other states for higher education in spite of financial difficulties. However, he said with proper support from the ministry the educational institutions in the region have the potential to grow and compete with other states, and can perform better.
