Kohima, May 24 (EMN): Appreciating the hard-work and sincerity of Mima villagers, Advisor of Rural Development Dr Neikiesalie Kire said the ‘department is meant for developing villages.’
He made the statement while addressing the gathering during the inaugural function of Barü, a ‘lifeline bridge of the agri-allied activities’ of the people of Mima village in Kohima district on May 24.
Small accomplishments should satisfy the people instead of promising big things and not accomplishing them, said Kire, who inaugurated the new bridge. He also expressed gratitude to the village elders who contributed immensely towards the completion of the bridge.
Advisor of Horticulture, Mhathung Yanthan, said the villagers (people Mima) are known for their traditional beekeeping (underground beekeeping) worldwide and urged them to preserve the unique traditional practice (of beekeeping).
Apart from their unique practice, he said the village is well known for honey production in the state. He appreciated them for being ‘hardworking, friendly, warm, affectionate, hospitable and creative.’ He also added that the government is for hardworking people like them (Mima villagers).
The advisor said the village has the potential to become a tourist destination and suggested the people to consult with the concerned department to see the possibility.
Advisor for Water Resources, Namri Chang who also spoke at the event assured support to the villagers and asked them to approach the department if they need help regarding irrigation.
