Kohima district administration organises marathon under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative.

DIMAPUR — The Kohima district administration, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, SANKALP – District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), and Sakhi-One Stop Centre, Kohima, organised a marathon on Tuesday under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative.
The event, held on the theme ‘Run to rise: Together against gender-based violence,” marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), a global campaign observed annually from November 25 to December 10, a DIPR report stated. The marathon was flagged off from the DC’s office by Deputy Commissioner and chairman of District Level Committee, Mission Shakti, Kohima, B Henok Buchem.
The DC highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in creating safe communities and encouraged participants to champion equality, respect, and protection for women and girls.

A prize distribution ceremony followed the run, where centre administrator of Sakhi-One Stop Centre, Kohima, Vimenu Richa, delivered the opening remarks on the theme ‘Women’s safety, our responsibility.’ She emphasised the need for vigilance and reporting, while fostering a culture of dignity and safety for all women.
Richa also highlighted how OSC offers services such as - medical care, legal and police assistance, counselling and shelter. Around 150 participated in the marathon.
Certificates and prizes were handed out to the winners and participants by the deputy commissioner. In the men’s category, Wede Tmero (Bib No. 132) emerged as the winner, while Kengimlungheing (Bib No. 145) secured the second position. In the women’s category, Tsumian P (Bib No. 155) bagged the first place, followed by Vilesienuo Mepfhù-o (Bib No. 148) in second place.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Vidilhounuo, specialist in Financial Literacy, DHEW, Mission Shakti, Kohima.
