The inaugural session of the 37th Rengma Students Union general conference 2013 with the theme ‘Envisioning Challenges’ was graced by parliamentary secretary, I & FC, Y Vikheho Swu as the chief guest on December 18 at Terogvunyu village.Addressing the gathering, the chief guest recalled the historical good relations between Pughoboto and the Rengma communities since earlier times. He stressed on the desire felt by the leaders and elders to have one administrative circle for the two sub-divisions adding that the far-sighted region has not become a reality till today and if the same objective should be pursued then the responsibility has fallen on the younger generations to propel the dream and turn it into a reality.
In his comparative assessment of the two sub-divisions in the backdrop of economic, political, social and educational development, he called upon the community to take up entrepreneurship for self reliance by taking advantage of the sub-division being placed in a geographically advantageous area for economic or entrepreneurship activities. When people depend on government jobs and its salary alone resources becomes limited, he also asserted.
The parliamentary secretary called upon the students’ community to pursue quality education with sincerity, honesty, commitment and hard work in order to become a useful individual in the society as no success and achievement is made without patience and perseverance.
Talking about peace and unity as a channel to boost development and progress in the society he said that the church civil societies, the government and the people in general should come together.
Deputy Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Er. Levi Rengma, the chief patron of the general conference, while speaking at the function, stated that in a competitive generation where technology and advancement has the upper hand that stir the cause of change in a globalised world, the student community which is the stakeholder of the future should live a productive, healthy and disciplined life based on good habits and hard work for the society to progress. He urged the students to focus on the right direction to achieve their goal and not be confused or carried away by the many divisive society and opinions that exist today.
RSU president, Caleb Magh, in his residential address, stated that ever since the students body came into being in 1947, it has strived to render its best service to the Rengma Students community in particular and the Rengmas in general.
Highlighting on the theme, he said that students should be able to identify and conquer the political, economic, educational and other challenges in life by shouldering responsibilities and put the Rengmas in the right direction.
In its endeavour the Union has also managed to resolve several confronting issues, he added. The union has been cohesively working together for better understanding with neighbouring tribes and Rengma people living in Assam and the Pochury with harmony and progress, he added.
NSF President, in his greetings, stated that students and young people should have conviction and determination when they are faced with challenges to conquer then. He also stated that for the Nagas to live as one family, spiritual and emotional integration should be part and parcel of the physical integration the people talk about.
The general conference held from December 17 – 19 was hosted by Kasha Daho Students Union.
Earlier, the chief guest also unveiled the general conference monolith.
