[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is getting vocal with its agenda while implementing them in the past few months. The latest of such development has been the conversion of hundreds of people in Agra to Hinduism. RSS sister organization Bajrang Dal has even gone to the extent of announcing on Tuesday to provide ‘ration cards’ to those newly converted Hindus (originally Muslims).
Hundreds of people have been converted to Hinduism at a ceremony organised by an offshoot of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in the cantonment area here. The Dharma Jagran cell of the RSS and Bajrang Dal organised the joint mass conversion ceremony where about many people, mostly slum dwellers, were converted after a ritual that included tying of sacred threads on their wrists and putting vermilion mark on their foreheads. According to Bajrang Dal leader Ajju Chauhan all the 300 poor Muslims who he said had embraced Hinduism in Agra will be given ration cards they badly lacked. Ajju Chauhan also said everyone in the group would be now taught Hindu rituals.Well, observers feel these happenings are expected. In the past few months the RSS and its sister organizations have become very mobile and vocal. One RSS leader had commented in Guwahati last month something like this, “If we do not become open to our agenda now then when we will?”
Meanwhile, the rise of the RSS or the Hindutva (Hindu nationalism) is also felt in the Northeastern region. According to the reports, there are over one lakh cadres of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in Assam alone. Drills are being conducted even in Diphu by the RSS now and then. There are also a sizeable number of RSS cadres in Manipur. Few days ago they had opened a telemedicine unit at its Nagamapal Seva Bharati office complex in Imphal. It is being dubbed as a major endeavour of the Sangh Pariwar as part of its healthcare programme in the northeast.
